Dave Prater Sr. of the Grammy Award-winning Sam and Dave soul duo who sang the 1960s hit "Hold On, I'm Comin' " and whose fame was revived with the Blues Brothers re-recording of "Soul Man," died Saturday in Paterson, N.J. He was 50. Prater met partner Sam Moore in Miami in 1958. Their Memphis-style soul, including the hit "Hold On I'm Comin,' " won them popularity through the 1960s and a Grammy for "Soul Man." But by the early 1970s, their popularity had waned, and in 1981 Moore and Prater broke up. "Soul Man" was revived as a hit by Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi in the 1980 movie "The Blues Brothers."
