An Aug. 14 manslaughter trial date was set for former World Boxing Council super welterweight champion Lupe Aquino.
The trial date also is the first anniversary of the freeway accident in which Aquino lost control of his Mercedes Benz and it flipped 30 feet down an embankment, killing Teresa Bello, 20, and Howard Thomas, 25, who were passengers in the car.Aquino, 26, is scheduled to be tried in Santa Monica Superior Court before Judge David Perez. He is charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated; one count of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs causing injury; one count of driving with a .10 percent blood alcohol; one count of assault with great bodily injury and with a deadly weapon, and one count of battery with serious bodily injury, an official said.
