Anton J. "Tony" Oettli, former circulation director for the Newspaper Agency Corp., the Deseret News and the Salt Lake Tribune, died June 21, 1989, at his home in Salt Lake City.
Oettli began his newspaper career as a carrier in 1929 for the Deseret News, eventually becoming the circulation director in 1949. From 1968 to 1970 he was circulation director for the Salt Lake Tribune before moving on to become circulation director for the NAC. Oettli retired from the NAC in 1977.For the past 12 years he operated "Tony's Half-Acre," a fruit stand and Christmas tree outlet. He was a member of the Rotary Club, the Elks Club, Ambassador Club and the Footprinters. He was an elder in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He was born Jan. 21, 1912, to August Adolph and Gerdina VanDerWaard Oettli. On July 1, 1933, he married Eva Marilla Moyer, and they were later divorced. He married Sally Arrington on March 14, 1969.
Services are scheduled for Saturday, June 24 at noon, at Larkin Mortuary, 240 E. South Temple. Friends may call Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and again one hour before services. Interment will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
