Surgeons were unsuccessful Sunday night in reattaching a 16-year-old Bountiful girl's hand, which was severed when it became entangled in a sleeping bag she was laundering in a washing machine at a commercial laundry.

Bountiful police reported the girl - an employee at Norgetown Laundry, 302 S. 200 West - was trying to untangle the jammed bag in a commercial washer. The bag apparently wrapped around her hand, twisting it off as the machine spun. The accident occurred just before 8 p.m. The girl was taken to Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful, according to paramedics from the Davis sheriff's department, who later transported her to LDS Hospital.

LDS Hospital reported the girl in fair condition Monday and that the attempted reattachment was unsuccessful.
