Michael Jackson and Pepsico are parting ways.
The soft drink giant canned its backing of the superstar on Sunday, two days after Jackson backed out of a world tour claiming he was addicted to pain-killers.His habit took hold after he was burned by a fire on a Pepsi commercial set in 1984, Jackson said.
The Pepsi endorsement was scheduled to end at the same time that Jackson's "Dangerous" tour ended. Jackson called a halt to the tour Friday.
"The cancellation of the tour really effectively cancels our relationship with Michael right now," Pepsi spokesman Gary Hemphill said Saturday. "We just hope he is able to resolve his problems."
Meanwhile, Jackson remained in seclusion.
News reports said he left Mexico City for London and, possibly, Switzerland.
