Kira Pratt Davis, age 41, died peacefully at home in Orem on July 7, 1997, after courageously surviving breast cancer for ten years.

She was born January 20, 1956 in Los Angeles, California to Samuel Orson and Louise Frandsen Pratt. She served an LDS mission in the Netherlands in 1977-78 and married Mark David Davis in the Manti Temple on May 19, 1979. Kira graduated from Orem High School in 1974, earned a B.A. degree in English from BYU, and received her M.A. from the University of Maryland in 1989. She was an accomplished portrait artist and illustrator and founded a small business, PaperFaces, in which she produced custom portrait paper dolls. She played the harp and sang with many choirs, orchestras and folk groups in Utah, the Netherlands, and the Washington D.C. area; recently she has guided her family in performing as a celtic folk band. She was an insightful writer, and leaves many pages of published essays as well as numerous journals and letters. She was an accomplished dancer and actress, and performed at Sundance and other local stages. Above all she was an inspired and loving wife and mother and a creative and loyal friend.She is survived by her husband, daughters Rebecca, 17, Kathryn, 12, and Elizabeth, 10, and foster son, Duc Dang (serving an LDS mission in San Francisco); mother, Louise F. Pratt of Orem; brothers, John (Martine) Pratt of San Pedro CA, Allen (Debbie) Pratt of Great Falls MT, and Carl (Lauri) Pratt of Orem; stepsisters Francesca Rebollo-Sborgi of Provo and Alessandra (Robert) Jones of West Plains MO; stepmother Rosalie Pratt Mortimer of Provo. She was preceded in death by her father, Samuel O. Pratt.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 10, 1997 at the River Ridge LDS Chapel, 1120 East 600 North, Orem. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem, and one hour prior to the services at the Chapel. Interment, Orem City Cemetery.
