She wore her coming death as gracefully as if it were a coat she'd learned to sew. When it grew cold enough she'd simply button it and go.

Beloved daughter sister, aunt, friend and Teacher, Walda Hopkins succumbed to cancer the night of November 9, 1998 and returned to her Father in Heaven.A life that touched so many is hard to sum up in a few paragraphs. Born January 4, 1941, to Wallace Henry and Frances Ione Hunt Hopkins. Walda grew up in Logan, Utah where she attended Logan schools and was active in the LDS Church. She went on to receive a Bachelor's degree in Child Development and Elementary Education from Utah State University. After teaching for a few years, she returned to her alma mater and continued her studies in education, where she taught perspective teachers as part of her Master's practicum. She then took a position with Jordan School District teaching kindergarten and first grade for 29 years.

Walda is survived by her mother and friend, Frances Ione Hunt Hopkins; her sisters and brothers-in-law: Carol and Larry Petersen, Logan, UT; and Fay and Lowell Decker, Salt Lake City; her nieces and nephews: Steven (Jill), Renae, Wendie (Reed), Ellen, Julie, and Mark; grand-nieces and nephews; and many friends, colleagues and loved ones. The largest part of her legacy is the over one thousand students, whose foundation for reading and life-long learning began under Walda's stewardship. We are a ll better for the life of this bright unassuming and faithful woman.

Funeral services will be at 12 noon, Saturday, November 14, 1998 at the Allen-Hall Mortuary Chapel, 34 East Center Street, Logan, where family and friends may call on Saturday from 10:30-11:45 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
