"Legacy," the popular movie about pioneers who settled the Salt Lake Valley, is now available on video for $7 from any of the LDS Church's distribution centers.

The film premiered in the Legacy Theater of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in 1993. Almost 5 million people saw the film during a seven-year run. It was recently replaced by "The Testaments: Of One Fold and One Shepherd."

"The First Presidency wanted to make this amazing story of faith and courage available to all who wish to see it," Elder Neil L. Anderson, executive director of the Audiovisual Department of the church, said.

The movie is available in the VHS format and depicts a fictional family, though it is otherwise considered historically accurate. That's because many of the characters' lines come from pioneer journal or letters. Costumes, buildings and props accurately reflect the period and circumstances.
