Richard W. Clayton was reunited with his parents John and Gail Morgan Clayton and his two sisters and brothers early January 17, 2001 after a long illness.

Richard was born February 13, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah where he spent his early years. Richard served in World War II as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Air Force. After returning from service, Richard served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in London, England. While serving his mission, he officiated in the 1948 London Olympics. Upon returning home, he married and was sealed to Ingeborg Forschner on August 27, 1952 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

He attended the University of Utah where he served as editor of the Utah Chronicle and later graduated with honors with a

degree in psychology. While at the University of Utah, he served as president of the student body, president of Delta Phi, and was a member of Owl and Key and the Beehive

organizations.

Upon graduation he accepted a position with New York Life Insurance which took him to residence in New York, Texas, Philadel-phia, Seattle and Portland. In 1969, he accepted a position with Beneficial Life and a returned home to Utah. In the early 1970's, Richard established his own independence by forming Consolidated Professional

Services and while he continued serving as its president, co-founded Pioneer Bank and Commerce First Thrift, among other companies. As one of his many awards and achievements, he earned recognition in the Million Dollar Round Club. Richard found great satisfaction in life in both learning and teaching. As a student of truth and an avid reader, he enjoyed serving in various teaching positions both civically and in the LDS Church. Among his many accomplishments he served as president of the American Cancer Society, was actively involved in Utah politics, including chairing a number of political campaigns. He enjoyed traveling, the arts and speaking. He willingly supported and encouraged his six children to seek their potential and counseled them oft "to not let things that matter least, matter most in life".

He is survived by his wife, Ingeborg Forschner Clayton; sons, Richard Jr. (Gail), Mark (Cherie), Cornell, John (Cathy); and daughters, Louise Fausett (Steve), and Carol Allred (Paul). Also, 13 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He will be dearly missed by all friends and family.

The family wishes to thank the staff and many friends at Evergreen Canyon Care Center and Hospice for their years of

compassion and care.

Funeral and burial services will be held Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001 at 3 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, where friends may call one hour prior to services.
