Bountiful North Stake celebrates with 50th anniversary events
Two days of events are planned this weekend to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Bountiful North Stake, which was organized April 20, 1958.
An open house will be held Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the stake center, 1500 N. 400 East in Bountiful. The open house will feature displays of photos, crafts and other memorabilia.
On Sunday at 7 p.m., a fireside will feature a video presentation, and each of the former presidents of the stake are invited to speak, including Bishop Keith B. McMullin of the Presiding Bishopric.
The stake was created with the division of the Bountiful Stake under the direction of Elders Spencer W. Kimball and Mark E. Petersen. Henry E. Peterson was called as president, with Myron O. Bangerter and Frank D. Eggett as counselors.
The stake consisted of the Bountiful 5th, 10th, 13th, West Bountiful 1st and West Bountiful 2nd Wards. On June 11, 1972, the stake was divided to create the Bountiful West Stake.
Today the wards in the Bountiful North Stake are Bountiful 10th, 13th, 19th, 27th, 37th, 53rd, Twin Hollows and the Meadows Branch.
'Errand of Angels' to screen
Excel Entertainment and Mirror Films will screen "The Errand of Angels" at the Brigham Young University Women's Conference May 1 at 7 p.m. in the Tanner Building. The Women's Conference, co-sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will be held May 1 and 2.
Set in Austria, "The Errand of Angels" recounts the mission experiences of Rachel Taylor told through her journal entries. Actress Erin Chambers plays Sister Taylor, who struggles with low language skills, foreign cuisine and a companion who has a less-than-desirable personality. The film is directed and written by LDS Film Festival founder Christian Vuissa and is scheduled for release in theaters this fall.
Camp plans anniversary party
Oakcrest, a girls camp that serves 92 stakes in the Salt Lake Valley, is celebrating its 50th year of operation this summer. All past Oakcrest employees, as well as Oakcrest Women's Committee members, are invited to a 50th anniversary party at the Oakcrest Camp July 11 from 5 to 8 p.m., with a program at 7 p.m. For more information, e-mail oakcrestreunion@yahoo.com.
Elder Bednar to speak at BYU
Elder David J. Bednar, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will speak at Brigham Young University's commencement exercises April 24. The exercises at 4 p.m. at the Marriott Center will be broadcast on KBYU and KBYU-FM (89.1). The university expects to award 6,276 degrees.
Live studio audience sought
KSL Television anchor Bruce Lindsay will be recording stories from "The Home Town Weekly, Good News for a Change," in front of live audiences April 26 and May 3 at 6:30 p.m. for publication later this year.
