Richard Neil OrdJune 6, 1930 ~ March 20, 2014Richard Neil Ord, 83, passed away March 20, 2014 in Highland, Utah. Neil was born June 6, 1930, in Evanston, Wyoming, to Russell Vincent and Marjorie Berger Ord. As a young man, he served a full-time mission for the LDS Church in England.He married Gayle Goble in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. Neil and Gayle have nine children: three sons and six daughters. Neil had a keen, discerning mind. He graduated BYU with a Bachelors Degree in Physics; and obtained his Masters Degree from the University of Utah. His entire career was spent as a nuclear physicist. A professor, he taught at BYU Hawaii, as well as Weber State University. His hobbies included studying history, astronomy, and photography. He enjoyed music and could play multiple instruments. He organized his own dance band. Neil loved hiking and spending time at his cabin in Boulder, Utah.As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Neil served in several bishoprics and stake callings. In his later years, he and his wife served a mission at The Church History Museum in Salt Lake City, Utah.Neil is survived by his wife, Gayle; and their children: Ann (Jim) Norris, David Ord; Karen (Wayne) Beckstead, Marian (Steve) Johnson, Kathy (Dave) Buckmiller, Richard (Suzanne) Ord, Carol (Tim) Hildebrand, Allyn (Tracey) Ord, and Erin (Greg) Ripplinger. His posterity includes 30 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Paul Ord and Dr. Jon Ord. Preceded in death by his father, Vince; mother, Marjorie (Marge); sisters: Margie Jean, Marsha, and Muriel.Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 187 South Main Street, Spanish Fork, Utah. Viewing for family and friends will be held at the funeral home from 9:45 - 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be at Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi, Utah.
