BYU has officially secured its latest commitment, officially announcing the signing of Polish center Jakub Urbaniak on Thursday morning.
Urbaniak was originally reported to be headed to BYU on July 21.
“We’re excited to add Jakub to our team,” BYU coach Kevin Young said in a statement. “He brings size, skill, athleticism and experience. All things we were looking to add.
“He will fit in well with the way we want to play because of his versatility on both ends of the floor. We love his motor and competitiveness. We look forward to getting him on campus.”
Urbaniak has been playing professionally in Poland since 2022, having also competed at the FIBA level for Poland’s senior national team.
During his time with WKS Slask Wroclaw this past season, the 6-foot-9 Urbaniak averaged 9.4 points and 6.0 rebounds, shooting 55% from the field. He’s also logged 7.7 points and 4.7 rebounds across 18 EuroCup contests since the start of 2025.
Urbaniak has also proven capable as a floor-stretching big man, hitting 34% of his 3-point shots against Polish competition this season.
With the addition of Urbaniak, BYU still has two open roster spots left to fill, with the Cougars still needing to add at least one more center to augment their depth in the post.
