SALT LAKE CITY — Popular indie folk band Bon Iver has partnered with the Utah Domestic Violence Coalition ahead of its Salt Lake City concert to donate merchandise and auction proceeds.

“One of the biggest problems with domestic abuse is that people don’t talk about it. It’s insidious, stigmatized and hushed,” said Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon in a statement Saturday.

“In Utah, 1 in 3 women will experience abuse in their lifetime and they are impacted by an unfathomable gender wage gap — almost 70% of what Utah men make. Utah women have a right to safety and gender equity, now,” he continued.

The band will hold two auctions for a fan package with tickets to the concert, which will take place on Sept. 4 in the Maverik Center in West Valley City. All proceeds from those auctions, as well as merchandise sales during the concert, will go to the Utah coalition, according to the statement.

The auctions are running Saturday through noon Friday, Aug. 30, online at 2abillion.org/product/slc1/ and 2abillion.org/product/slc2/.

The band released its fourth studio album earlier this month.

“We are honored to partner on this campaign, and we are incredibly grateful for Bon Iver’s commitment to bring attention to intentional acts and decisions that have disproportionately impacted women for decades,” said Jenn Oxborrow, coalition executive director.
